Introducing Foreign Look Volume N°3 - HUMAN.
We, humans, are social beings; we share mirror neurons that allow us to match each other’s emotions unconsciously and immediately. We leak emotions to each other. We anticipate and mirror each other’s movements when we’re in sympathy or agreement with one another—when we’re on the same side. And we can mirror each other’s brain activity when we’re engaged in storytelling and listening – both halves of the communication conundrum.
We all know that comforting feeling when we are being physically embraced – feeling heard, emotionally understood, and supported by another human being. That warm feeling of human connection is so important in maintaining our overall emotional and physical health. Dozens of studies have shown that people who have satisfying relationships are happier, have fewer health problems, and live longer. In today’s society, we are connected to the world through social media and technology, and although this is important, we are neglecting a crucial need of us as humans - each other.
